Guinness: Day spacecraft is the world's first solar sailboat

Japanese "Icarus" spaceship

According to the Japanese "Daily News" news on December 7, the spacecraft "Icarus", developed by JAXA, was officially incorporated by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's first solar-powered sailboat.

The main characteristic of the "Icarus" is that it can use no light fuel in the universe and open up 200 square meters of canvas made of thin resin to receive sunlight to fly. This idea took place about 100 years ago, but "Icarus" is the first time it has actually been realized.

According to reports, the "Icarus" was launched in May 2010 at the Kasashima Seed Island space launch site along with the Venus profiler. About six months later, the "Icarus" confirmed that this technology and thin-film solar cells attached to canvas can generate electricity. The Icarus is currently orbiting the sun and may reach the Jupiter region in the next few years.

According to JAXA, if the "Icarus" solar sail technology is combined with a thin-film solar cell, it may be possible to create a better-reading machine that can fly farther in the future. It is also possible to approach Jupiter. (Internship Compilation: Li Yang Reviewer: Wang Huan)
