The survey activity took the form of open registration. From February 25th to February 28th, the Henan Province Consumers Association and the Henan Provincial Building Decoration Supervision and Inspection Station and other organizers received over 400 registrations and consultations. Through rigorous screening, 19 households were selected as families to be inspected, involving a total of 18 decoration companies in Zhengzhou, Beijing, Nanjing and Shanghai. Starting from March 1, the Henan Provincial Building Decoration Supervision and Inspection Station carried out on-site sampling and experimental analysis of these families. As of March 7, the testing was completed and lasted for 12 days.
According to Zhang Lei, engineer of the Henan Provincial Construction Decoration Supervision and Inspection Station, responsible for the investigation, the test is based on the GB/T18883-2002 "indoor air quality" standard. The test items include formaldehyde and total volatile organic compounds (TVOC). Judging from the test results, only 57.8% of the 19 households qualified for both indicators, the formaldehyde pass rate was 63.1%, and the TVOC pass rate was 68.4%. The highest value of formaldehyde reached 0.34 mg/m3, which exceeded the standard by more than 3 times. The highest TVOC reached 5 mg/m3, exceeding the standard by more than 8 times.
In addition, there are many problems with home improvement contracts. According to the relevant personages of Henan Provincial Consumers Association, the main performance is in three aspects: First, some decoration companies do not use standard contract texts; Second, most of the contracts do not have environmental quality requirements; Third, there are blank items in some contracts.
It is reported that the Consumers Association of Henan Province will take corresponding measures for construction units that failed to meet the standard home improvement project after publicizing the test results of this survey activity.
40% of home improvement air quality failed
On the morning of the 10th, the result of the inspection conducted by the relevant department entitled “Integrity/Rights Protection - 3·15 home improvement air quality survey activity†was announced. Among the 19 households tested, 40% of households had unqualified indoor air quality.
