The two women workers remembered the details of the fire drill and saved lives

On October 30, after treatment, Ms. Zhou of Huang Yan returned home yesterday. Just two days ago, a fire broke out at her factory. She and another female colleague were trapped in the office on the third floor. In extremely dangerous circumstances, the two remembered the knowledge they learned during the usual fire drill and eventually escaped.

At 12 o'clock noon on October 28th, a motorcycle parts processing plant in a plastics factory in Chengjiang Industrial Park in Huangyan caught fire and surrounded by a stimulating smell of burning plastic.

At the time, Ms. Zhou worked in the office on the third floor. After discovering the fire, she and another female colleague rushed to grab some important information and threw it downstairs. When they were ready to open the door to escape, they found that the outside was dark and the smoke was thick and there was no way out.

"We hurried back to the office and closed the door to reduce the smoke." Ms. Zhou recalled that when a colleague chose to jump to escape, she and a female colleague chose to stay in the office. "The building is too high. It's too dangerous to jump. It's better to wait for the rescue."

Just some time ago, the factory organized a fire safety drill. In this section, Ms. Zhou and her colleagues remember what they learned during the drill. "Fire is often caused by the inhalation of toxic fumes, which causes suffocation. So we must first soak a towel with water and cover our nose and mouth."

However, there are no towels in the office and the bathroom is still opposite the corridor. What should I do?

“There was no problem with no towels. I took off my own thin sweater and my colleagues took off their clothes. As for the water source, we thought of using saliva or urine... But when the building was hot, people were very thirsty. Coupled with anxious mood, can not spit water, but also can not solve the urine." Ms. Zhou said.

In a critical moment, Ms. Chou heard the sound of a “zz” flush from the window and quickly opened the window. This action, although making the downstairs into the house, but also makes the fire water sprayed into the room. “We hurriedly grabbed the water in our clothes and then covered our mouths and snouts on the ground. In this way, the smoke was on top of us. With the filtering action of wet clothes, we were not picked up.”

It took nearly half an hour to stay until the firefighters successfully forcibly entered the building with the ascendant. Ms. Zhou and her colleagues were rescued.
