The root system of garlic is a string-like fleshy root with no main roots. The roots are scattered on the stem of the base of the garlic clove. There is no root hair or very few root hairs. Hair roots are shallow, but the root system is more, and it is born in a soil layer of 5-25 cm. Although the garlic root system is weak, it is very sensitive to fertilizer and water. Although it is more drought-tolerant, it prefers to be moist. Although it requires a large amount of fertilizer, it cannot be excessive. Therefore, it is necessary to summarize the experience and lessons in field management according to the characteristics of garlic root development, and make the following improvements in fertilizer and water management.

Apply a small amount of fertilizer several times, pay attention to the light before and after. The intrinsic experience of farmers in the garlic producing areas is that they are “poor and not planted with garlic”, that is to say, they are willing to invest in fertilizer when planting garlic. According to research, the garlic in the abundance field requires 12-18.5 kg of pure nitrogen, 10-11.5 kg of phosphorus pentoxide and 12-13.5 kg of potassium oxide per acre. The base fertilizer should account for 60-70 of the total fertilization amount, 1500-2000 kg of manure excrement should be applied per mu, or 2-3 square meters of decomposed organic farmyard manure, 40-50 kg of cake fertilizer, or bio-based compound fertilizer. 75-100 kg, with 50 kg of ammonium bicarbonate, or 50-60 kg of high-content ternary compound fertilizer. Garlic emergence in the 2-3 leaf stage, each acre should be chased by cooked manure 1000 kg, or urea 10-15 kg. Before the winter, apply the decomposed ash and fertilizer as the wax fertilizer, about 1500 kg per mu. Apply 10-15 kg of urea per acre before convulsion. And Huimanfeng active liquid fertilizer can be used, spraying 100 ml per acre with 50 kg of water. After convulsion, according to the growth of garlic, apply the increased fertilizer as appropriate.
