Japan may cut home solar tariffs

International Energy Network News: According to the Nikkei report, the Japanese government may cut 12.5% of home solar energy use costs in April 2011. However, Nikkei did not specify the source of the information.

Nikkei also said that the Japanese Ministry of Economic Affairs, the Ministry of Trade, and the Ministry of Industry intend to reduce the on-grid tariff to 42 yen/kWh (51 cents). The current cost is 48 yen/kWh.

It is reported that Japan began implementing on-grid tariffs in November 2009 to promote clean energy development and reduce its country’s carbon emissions. Nikkei pointed out that the reduction of electricity prices is due to a certain reduction in the cost of solar energy.

Nikkei also stated that the Japanese government will make a final decision in mid-February 2011 regarding the change in domestic solar energy tax rates.
