Graphene is a flat film composed of carbon atoms, which is only one carbon atom thick and almost completely transparent. Graphene composites have the advantages of high strength, good toughness, excellent electrical and thermal conductivity, and have broad application prospects in the fields of aerospace, electronics, shipbuilding, new energy, and environmental purification.

Due to advantages such as large reserves, high strength, and good mechanical processing properties, aluminum alloys have been widely used in modern industry, military space, and civilian fields. However, the corrosion of aluminum alloys greatly reduces the safety of the product and brings huge economic losses. Therefore, it is of great economic and practical significance to do a good job of corrosion protection of aluminum alloy materials.

This project involves the participation of self-made water-soluble nano-coating materials and rare earth passivation with graphene oxide, and has a significant improvement effect on aluminum alloy corrosion protection. Among them, graphene alleviates the environmental pollution caused by organic emissions, improves the coating's resistance to environmental aging, replaces toxic hexavalent chromium with rare earths, and optimizes surface treatment technologies. Its green environmental protection characteristics are very much in line with the concept of innovation and sustainable development put forward by China in the “13th Five-Year Plan” development.

Specifically, the high specific surface area and large surface active sites of graphene oxide can effectively improve the dissolving and dispersing properties of polyaniline in an aqueous environment. At the same time, the stacking structure of ultra-thin graphene also effectively blocks the corrosive medium from reaching the metal. The surface of the channel enhances the corrosion resistance of metallic materials.

In the surface treatment process, a simple passivation system using rare earth, hydrogen peroxide, and gelatin was used to achieve the passivation effect of chromic acid. This process is simple in operation, low in energy consumption, and has little impact on the environment.

This year marks the beginning of the “Thirteenth Five-Year Plan”. The research and application of independent innovation of graphene composite materials is expected to set off a new wave of industrial development and promote the transformation and upgrading of related industries.
