American Scientist: Sedentary Will Amplify Obesity Gene's Effect on Body Type

Different lifestyles can amplify or reduce the impact of genes on human health. American researchers found that sedentary can "magnify" the "efficacy" of the obese gene, and the short-term walk can offset the health effects of obese genes.

The American Heart Association held its annual meeting in California this week. Qi Binqi, a representative of genetic genetic research team, reported on the research results at the annual meeting.

"This is the first time in the academic community to study the correlation between living habits and genetic quality of obesity," said Qi Binqi.

The trial found that long-term watching TV and other sedentary habits can make people with obesity genetic factors even more obese, amplifying the role of genetic genes on body shape; if you insist on walking for one hour a day, you can reduce the impact of genetic genes on body size.

In a survey of 2,740 women and 4,564 men who took part in a two-year survey, after walking on a daily basis, at least half of the body mass index (BMI) of individuals with genetic factors of obesity decreased to varying degrees.

The body mass index is the weight in kilograms divided by the square of the height in meters. An index greater than 30 is usually considered as obesity. Qi Binqi's research team calculated that if the cumulative TV watching time per week exceeds 40 hours, the body mass index will increase by an average of 0.34; if you insist on walking for one hour per day, the body mass index will drop by at least 0.08.
