Discussion on common problems in gas flowmeter installation

Discussion on common problems in gas flowmeter installation In recent years, with the development of the company's business, the number of industrial and commercial users has increased, and the application of Roots flowmeter and turbine flowmeter has become more common. Due to various equipments, limited installation space, insufficient construction experience, and weak work responsibility, flowmeter installation has become a problem that is more likely to occur during construction. Below I would like to discuss some of the problems that often occur in the installation of gas flow meters.

1. Roots flowmeter is stuck by impurities

This is the most common problem in the installation of Roots meters. Because the Roots flowmeter is an extremely precise instrument, its rotor is very tightly matched. Even tiny impurities fall into the flowmeter, causing the rotor to be stuck and the flowmeter to be inoperable. It is time-consuming and labor-intensive to clean up these impurities, which has delayed the customer's use of gas and negatively affected the company's reputation. In the past, we have learned a lot in this regard. Can such a problem be avoided?
Observing the impurities falling into the flowmeter, there are only a few types - raw materials with debris, sealant, welding slag. So, I think we should follow the following points when installing the Roots flowmeter:

(1) Install a filter at the inlet of the Roots flowmeter.
(2) Install other equipment in the watch system first, and put the flow meter in the final installation.
(3) Do not remove the sealing package of the flowmeter before the flowmeter is officially installed.
(4) When installing the flowmeter, carefully clean the impurities in the installed pipeline, such as: remove the excess raw material tape on the side of the pipe thread by hand, wipe off the spilled sealant with a cloth, and tap the pipe with a hammer. The road is damaged by iron filings, welding slag, welding skin, etc., and conditions can be purged.
If we urge the workers to do the above and conduct supervision and inspection, I think the Roots flowmeter card problem should be avoided.

2. Filter cannot be removed

Since the design of the watch system generally does not indicate the spacing between the devices, the space left by the commercial users to install the watch is often limited, so the construction personnel will be very compact when assembling the watch, causing some filters to be Other equipment hinders the inability to remove and affects the maintenance of the filter in the future. There are also problems such as: the ball Valve handle can not be closed; the IC card controller cover can not be opened; the surface can not be read on the wall.
The quality supervisor has corrected many times on the above issues. This intentional and unintentional neglect of the convenience of subsequent maintenance of equipment is still very serious. Quality supervisors should strictly control the project acceptance, and cooperate with the construction unit to reverse this idea of “just in place, regardless of future use”.

3. Straight pipe length before and after the turbine flow meter is not enough

A turbine flowmeter is a type of speed flowmeter that estimates the flow rate of a gas by measuring the velocity of gas flow in the pipeline. In order to ensure the accuracy of the measurement, the gas flowing into the turbine flowmeter must be a typical laminar or turbulent flow distribution, which requires that the front and rear ends of the flowmeter have long enough straight sections to stabilize the airflow. Generally, we require the length of the straight pipe at the front end to be 3d (ie 3 times pipe diameter) and the rear end to be 2d. There should be no pipe fittings such as elbows, tees and shut-off valves in this range.
Due to limited installation space or insufficient construction experience, construction units often do not follow the above requirements. Such turbine flowmeters cannot be delivered. We should carefully check the installation instructions before installation, understand the special installation requirements of various equipment, sum up experience, and avoid undue mistakes.

4. Device not installed by flow direction flag

Some devices look the same on both sides of the interface, but in fact its internal structure requires it to be installed according to the flow direction during installation. Such equipment generally has a sign indicating the flow direction on the outside, and if the worker does not notice the sign during installation, the device may be reversed.
There are various flow meters, IC card controllers, emergency shut-off valves, corrugated compensators, filters, etc. for the flow of the watch system. Strictly speaking, ball valve installation also has flow requirements. The standard method is to place the seamless end on the airflow direction.

5. The device is not installed in the direction of gravity

Some devices are sensitive to the direction of gravity and require parallel or vertical gravity directions.
The IC card controller (Hangzhou Pioneer) and the emergency shut-off valve are cut off by the weight drop of the valve core on the valve port. Therefore, the equipment must be installed on the horizontal pipe.
The Y-type filter used for artificial gas is also required to be installed on a horizontal pipe, otherwise the condensed water in the pipe will not deposit with gravity on the bottom of the filter, affecting the use of the filter. The Roots flowmeter is installed in the vertical part of the pipe to provide self-cleaning.
Installation according to the direction of gravity is necessary for some equipment, such as IC card controllers, emergency shut-off valves, etc., and some are as close as possible, but not strong.

6. Leak detection watch system during air tightness test

When the quality inspector conducts airtight acceptance of the commercial user project, it often detects that there is a leak in the watch. Carefully asked the construction workers how they self-tested. They found that they often forgot to open the front and rear Ball Valves of the watch system during the self-test, so that only the pipes behind the watch were inspected, and the watch system was not detected. The watch has more interfaces, and the missing points often appear in this place. Omissions in the air tightness test are unforgivable and the consequences can be very serious.

It is not uncommon to carelessly lead to accidents. Our gas engineering installation requires 12 points of care, patience and responsibility. The flow meter installation problem mentioned above, if you have valuable advice, please provide timely to promote improvement, thank you!
