Germany to increase input in biomass energy research

"Energy research is the basis for ensuring an environmentally-friendly, reliable, and cheap energy supply," Bleser, State Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture of Germany, said, "Agriculture will make an important contribution to the supply of renewable energy." In 2011-2014, the German Federal Ministry of Agriculture will invest 180 million euros to support biomass energy technology research. Research funding will come from the Renewable Materials Research Program and the federal government's energy climate.

At present, about 70% of renewable energy supply in Germany comes from renewable raw materials, while agricultural crops account for most of the supply of renewable raw materials. In the future, there are enormous development challenges and research needs in the field of biomass energy technologies. This requires advanced concepts and innovative ideas to promote the rational and efficient integration of renewable energy technologies in key production processes. The future funding of the bioenergy energy research area of ​​the German Federal Ministry of Agriculture will include the following topics:

1) Combined use of biomass energy and other renewable energy sources.

2) Improve decentralized bio-energy use efficiency technologies.

3) Develop a new renewable energy technology route utilizing renewable algae.

4) Breeding techniques for energy crops adapted to future climate change.

5) Advanced, sustainable and efficient biomass fuels.

6) Study on humus and nutrient components of organic residue in bioenergy conversion equipment.
