Lighting and lighting design

The contemporary and simple design dominates the design concept of many years, and it is thought that the simple lines and layout are the most important part. Concise design can truly attract people and give them real enjoyment. On the contrary, too elaborate and complicated arrangement will only add a lot of unnecessary elements, which is contrary to the purpose of enhancing the sense of indoor cleanliness in the overall design. The most important thing is how to establish a perfect spatial structure so that the space can convey different atmospheres and levels of feelings as well as emotions such as hi, anger, sadness and joy, and become closer to people and bring surprises at any time. This explains and agrees with my design work and my recent conversations with multiple customers. The Importance of Lighting In the current design project archives, it is not difficult to find a variety of lighting themes running through them. Shadow Intersections are everywhere, creating different atmospheres and multiple moods. Indirect lighting can be said to be a more flexible and interesting design element that can act as a catalyst for the atmosphere. It is the focus and theme of the studio and can also enhance the sense of hierarchy of existing decoration. In general, lighting arrangement can be divided into two kinds, direct and indirect. Direct lighting refers to those direct-type lighting, such as chandeliers and spotlights. The light is directly scattered on the designated location, projecting a circle of light and shadow, for lighting or highlight the theme of use, direct and simple. Indirect light can play a unique function in the atmosphere to create a different mood. Its light will not be directed to the ground, but will be placed behind the wall, behind the ceiling, or behind the wall. Light will be projected onto the wall and reflected on the ground. The soft light will gently wash the entire space. Gentle and romantic. The proper cooperation of these two lights can create a perfect space mood. Some bright and lively, some soft and implicit, can show the unique personality of the light through the contrast, and exudes extraordinary artistic rhyme. In the use of home lighting, the bedroom should be warm, the study and the kitchen should be bright and practical, the living room should be rich, level, and artistic conception, the restaurant should be romantic, and the bathroom should be warm and soft. This lighting arrangement I think has reached its highest performance.
At the beginning of the new century, what are the trends of international architectural lighting design? What are the current situation and prospects of China's architectural environmental lighting design? This is a concern for lighting designers and an interesting topic for architects and planners. First, the construction of the light environment has caused architects and planners to pay attention to the light environment has received social attention - night lighting, green lighting, protection of young people's vision ..., large-scale urban construction and construction, complex technology, lighting technology constantly updated; pursuit of good The general trend of working environment and living environment; Realizing that "light" is an important element of environmental art creation.
Examples: (A) The transparent glass dome of the German Parliament Building in Berlin: The top lighting lighting technology is integrated with the roof structure, which has a powerful artistic impact. This high-tech work by British architect Norman Foster set a new standard in the use of modern technology for architectural art and won the 22nd Pritzker Prize. (II) Capital Airport New Terminal: The design team published four summary articles in the Journal of Architecture. “Light in the indoor visual environment” is one of them. The terminal building has a building area of 286,500 m2, hundreds of installations, a total of 62,962 sets of lights (an average of 4.5 m2), 94,864 lights (approximately 3 m2 of a light), and a total lighting power of 4,678 kW (16.3 W/m2) ; and 105 skylights (3600 m2) on the roof for daylight. This is a huge building lighting lighting project. The author of this article proposes that architects must further improve their understanding of the light environment management; all parties involved in the construction of light environment should try to realize important experiences in advance. (3) The rise of urban nightscape lighting has caused planners and architects to pay attention to and study the urban night landscape. Some cities and regions have begun to introduce the "nightscape lighting plan" in urban planning and urban design. II. Trends in architectural ambient lighting design (1) Comprehensive assessment of lighting quality, desalination and simplification of illuminance indicators In 2000, IESNA of the North American Lighting Engineering Society published the "North American Lighting Handbook - 9th Edition", and its editor-in-Chief Mark S Rea wrote in the "Handbook". In the following: "...the past two decades in the practice of lighting, from lighting engineering (illuminating engineering) to lighting design (Lighting design), from illumination calculations to aesthetic evaluation trends, from quantity to quality." IESNA The Executive Vice President, William H. Hanly, said: "This method (ie, the IESNA Lighting Design Guide with a comprehensive quality factor in the "Handbook" - author's note) is called the bridge to the 21st century." IESNA argues that a comprehensive assessment of lighting quality requires a comprehensive consideration of three factors: human needs - visibility, operational efficacy, visual comfort, social interaction, mood and atmosphere, health, safety and pleasure, appreciation of the United States;
Architecture - form, composition, style, standards and regulations;
Economy and Environment - Installation, Maintenance, Operation, Energy, Environment. For the first aspect, IESNA proposed 19 factors including the level of illumination, and pointed out the different degrees of importance of these factors for various buildings and spaces. At the same time, the illuminance standard was simplified to 7 levels, namely: orientation and simple visual work 30, 50, 100 lx; general visual work 300, 500, 1000 lx; special visual work 3000 ~ 10000 lx. The author believes that the requirements for lighting quality can be summarized in three levels: bright, comfortable and artistically expressive. Of course, the combination of the three is the best lighting. Bright - a suitable work surface illumination and uniformity, a good contrast between the operating object and the background, suitable ambient brightness;
Comfortable - no glare and strobe, people and things shape three-dimensional sense of natural, pleasing to the eye, the work surface and the ambient surface brightness ratio is appropriate, lighting control flexible and convenient; artistic expression - light to form a specific mood and atmosphere, the environment The brightness pattern is attractive, the lighting device looks beautiful, vivid natural light and outdoor landscape. (b) Concerning energy conservation, environmental protection, health, energy conservation, environmental protection, and health are the basic tenets of green lighting. In 1991, the green lighting advocated by the US Environmental Protection Agency had been popularized globally and deeply rooted in people's minds, which had a profound impact on lighting design. Focusing on energy conservation, green lighting promotes the development and application of energy-efficient light sources and lighting fixtures; formulates “energy efficiency standards for lighting products” and “energy saving standards for architectural lighting” and legislates to guide lighting design to use energy-efficient lighting products. The United States ASHRAE/IESNA jointly developed the energy saving standard for building lighting based on the unit power density UPD limit (watts per square meter). The standard has been updated three times and UPD has been reduced successively; the implementation of green lighting has strong technical support - energy efficient lighting Product database, energy efficiency analysis software, consulting services, etc. provide convenience for lighting design. In recent years, special attention has been paid to the negative effects of lighting: glare, light pollution and light interference. (3) Innovation of design concepts and design techniques The comprehensive understanding of lighting quality and the emergence of new lighting technologies have led to the innovation of design concepts and techniques. People-oriented, personalized design - universal lighting control, caring for individual needs of different light, the pursuit of personalized lighting style; focus on the choice of light color, use light to create atmosphere and atmosphere to meet people's psychological and spiritual pursuit; Non-uniform lighting, dynamic lighting, when the light is needed, the right amount of light to the desired place; indoor and outdoor lighting techniques complementary and cross; the application of stage lighting techniques - color lighting, dynamic lighting, portrayal focus, covert light source. (IV) Communication and cooperation between lighting designers and architects are increasingly closer. Excellent lighting design Lighting concepts must enter architecture plans early and integrate into architectural design and interior design, making “light” an integral part of the architecture and indoor and outdoor space design. In part, it supports and presents architectural and interior design ideas to meet user expectations and requirements. For this reason, communication and cooperation between lighting designers and owners, users, architects, and planners are very important. This cooperation is becoming increasingly close. Third, the future outlook (A) "Light" as one of the design elements, will enter the architectural design, urban planning, dissolved in the minds of architects and planners.
(II) With the development of economy, improvement of living, and technological advancement, lighting will use humanistic ideas as a design concept; rich lighting means will create novel lighting modes; people's physical and mental health and sight will benefit from excellent lighting.
(3) Young professionals of architecture who are interested in the lighting industry will enter the architectural lighting design team to speed up the process of professional lighting design in China, and finally realize the professionalization and standardization of lighting design.
