Floods cause 25% of livestock death Pakistani leather industry faces raw material shortage

The Pakistani Tannery Association (PTA) recently stated that due to the loss of livestock, the leather industry will face a 30% shortage of raw materials.

Agha Saiddain, chairman of the Pakistan Tannery Association, pointed out that the recent flooding in Pakistan has resulted in 25% of the livestock deaths in Punjab and Sindh, causing a material shortage of 35% in the leather industry.

At present, a large number of animals lack feed and shelter, and in addition, natural pastures are submerged in floodwaters.

He further pointed out that the cost of the leather industry has risen by 150% compared with 2009-10. What's more, in the current situation, costs may increase by another 20%.

Saiddain also pointed out that the leather industry is now facing a 17% drop in exports, and exports will drop by 25% over time.
