Superflex develops electric clothing to provide mobility for the elderly

Many parts of the world now face the problem of aging population. According to statistics from the United Nations, the growth rate of the elderly population is faster than that of the global population. This will inevitably cause certain problems for communities around the world.

Some start-up companies are already developing nursing and companion robots, which are intended to provide some necessary help for the elderly's home life. There are also some companies that think of the ability to give the old people the ability to act autonomously.

Superflex Ventures is one of them. The company is developing a device called "electric clothing". The lightweight garments will be equipped with electronic muscle that will support the human torso, buttocks and legs under active or stationary conditions. It doesn't seem to sound like an exoskeleton device. But Superflex doesn't think so.

Superflex CEO Rich Mahoney said that the exoskeleton itself is an extracorporeal framework. It is usually bulky and has some limitations in design. Superflex is developing a lightweight garment with a wearable robot.

Superflex developed an electric suit called Aurora that integrates the power supply battery into the garment. The material used in the garment is a lightweight, flexible fabric. The hexagonal device of clothing contains a motor and a sensor. Aurora will use artificial intelligence to collaborate with the body's natural movements to add extra muscle strength to the elderly.

The Aurora Power Pack is currently just a prototype, and Superflex plans to commercialize it in 2018.
