Open design of five-axis linkage CNC system

Abstract: This paper introduces a five-axis linkage numerical control system based on industrial computer. The system configuration and hardware software open design method are discussed. From the perspective of the development process and the use effect, the open design can effectively shorten the development cycle and improve the quality of the hardware and software of the CNC system.

Its architecture,hardware and software opening design method is discussed.From the developing procedure and actual working,we can make a conclusion that opening design is effective in Shorting the developing time and improving the quality of CNC system.

1 Overview

From the development of the first three-axis milling machine CNC system from MIT to the present for more than 40 years, the design method of the numerical control system has undergone tremendous changes. Especially in the past ten years, with the rapid development of computer technology, the numerical control system from the overall structure to the detailed design, from software design to hardware design, is very different from the early CNC system. In the early CNC system, many functions were implemented by hardware circuits for efficiency reasons. The speciality was strong, and the maintainability and scalability were relatively poor. On the other hand, the computing speed of general-purpose computers is increasing exponentially with time. Now the computing power of a microcomputer has reached or exceeded that of the early minicomputers. Moreover, general-purpose microcomputers are widely used, and there are perfect and open standards. Support for numerous peripheral hardware devices and rich software resources. The development of the numerical control system by means of a microcomputer can achieve twice the result with half the effort, and thus has become an international trend in the field of numerical control.

The five-axis linkage CNC system has a large number of linkage axes, and at the same time involves two rotary motions. The interpolation algorithm is complex, and its components, such as servo drive unit, position feedback unit, error compensation, electrical control, machine tool mechanical structure, etc. Different characteristics are used in different applications, and should be fully considered in the overall design of the system. At present, most CNC systems cannot meet the needs of this variety. For different applications, different types of CNC systems must be used, which will inevitably increase development and maintenance costs. By studying the open CNC system and its functional components, the entire CNC system can be easily recombined according to user needs to improve system portability, scalability, maintainability and compatibility.

2 Open design of CNC system hardware

2.1 General principles of hardware design

The hardware design of the traditional CNC system is divided into two genres: the large-board structure and the bus-type architecture using dedicated chips. The slab structure is a closed system for the user, and the expansion of functions and system maintenance are limited. The bus-type structure has certain flexibility, but since the bus is determined by the manufacturer itself, there is no common industry standard, and the products of different manufacturers are not interchangeable. Therefore, this design method is not suitable for modern manufacturing. Need. On the other hand, with the development of computer technology, the speed of microcomputers is far different from that of a decade ago. In the design of hardware and software in this situation, the focus of attention has shifted from efficiency to interchangeability and maintainability. Affected by this, in the design process of the numerical control system, the development of the large-board structure or dedicated bus to the standard bus, reconfigurable unit modules has become an international trend.
