The basic knowledge of cobalt is introduced

Cobalt is a gray hard metal with a Curie point (a critical point for losing magnetism) of 1150 °C , a melting point of 1495 °C , a boiling point of 2900 °C , and magnetic and high temperature resistance. Oxidation occurs above 300 ℃, fine cobalt powder burns up. Cobalt can be dissolved in dilute acid. It will be formed in the thick nitric acid to form an oxide film and be passivated. When heated, it can react violently with oxygen, sulfur, chlorine and bromine.

The physical and chemical properties of cobalt determine that it is an important raw material for the production of heat-resistant alloys, hard alloys, anti-corrosion alloys, magnetic alloys, and various cobalt salts. Cobalt-base alloys or cobalt-containing alloy steels are used as components for combustion turbine blades, impellers, conduits, jet engines, rocket motors, missiles, and various high-load heat-resistant components in chemical steam turbines and as an important metal material in the nuclear industry. Cobalt, as a binder in powder metallurgy, can ensure certain toughness of cemented carbide. Magnetic alloys are indispensable materials in the modern electronics and electromechanical industries. They are used to manufacture various components of acoustic, optical, electrical and magnetic devices. Cobalt is also an important component of permanent magnetic alloys. In the chemical industry, cobalt is used in colored glass, pigments, tantalum and catalysts, desiccants, and the like in addition to superalloys and anticorrosive alloys. The application of cobalt in the battery industry, diamond tool industry and catalyst industry will also be further expanded, and the demand for cobalt metal is on the rise.
China's cobalt ore resources are mainly distributed in Gansu, Shandong, Yunnan, Hebei, Qinghai, and Shanxi. The sum of reserves accounts for 70 % of the country's total reserves . The remaining 30 % of reserves are distributed in Xinjiang, Sichuan, Hubei, Tibet, Hainan and Anhui. Province.

The proven cobalt resources in China have three major characteristics:

1 ) The vast majority are associated minerals with low grades and cobalt is mainly recovered as a by-product. According to statistical analysis of more than 50 deposits with cobalt reserves greater than 1000 tons , the average grade of cobalt is only 0.02 %. Therefore, the metal recovery rate in the production process is low, the process is complicated, and the production cost is high.

2 ) The available cobalt resources are mainly associated with copper-nickel deposits, and its proven reserves of cobalt resources account for about 50 % of the country's total reserves. Copper-nickel deposits have been developed such as Baijiazui in Jinchuan, Gansu, Hongqiling in Jilin, and Kalatongke in Xinjiang. Jinchuan, Gansu Province is the major cobalt-producing area in China, and its associated cobalt reserves are 144,200 tons . The available cobalt resources are secondarily associated with copper-iron deposits. Currently, there are the Zhongtiaoshan Copper Mine in Shanxi Province, the Daye Iron Mine in Hubei Province, the Jinling Iron Mine in Shandong Province, the Lalachang Copper Mine in Sichuan Province, and the Shilu Iron Copper in Hainan Province. Mines and other mines.

3) China's single cobalt mine is a cobalt mine, and its reserves only account for about 2 % of the country's total reserves.
