Tips for modeling with UG software

The Unigaphics (UG) software developed by UGS in the United States is a large CAD software integrating CAD/CAM/CAE. Before modeling, the model, especially the complex model (such as the water chamber of the radiator, the injection molded parts and castings of the casing, etc.) should be considered globally, and the modeling sequence and method should be carefully determined.

Make expressions available in the drawing module. After entering the drawing module, the default settings of the UG system make the expression unusable, which means that the model parameters of the part cannot be changed by changing the expression value in the drawing module. At this time, as long as the value of the environment variable UGIIDRAFT-EXPRESSIONS-OK is set to 1 in the UGII-ENV.DAT file, the expression dialog box can still be used in the drawing module.

Before performing the main modeling process, you should carefully check the dimensions to prevent errors and omissions. For example, in the "vacuum" operation of the water chamber, if a part of the size is missing or wrong, after the "evacuation" operation, the design may be completely scrapped due to the error of the part size, thereby affecting the development progress.

For complex models, 3D solid modeling and 2D graph generation should be used together. The two-dimensional map can more accurately check the size of the space that is difficult to check, and can in turn verify the correctness of the solid modeling and find out the existing problems in time.

The modeling process should try to avoid creating "no parameters" entities, otherwise it will cause great trouble for later size changes. The operations that produce a "parameterless" entity are: 1 "Copy" operation in "Transform"; 2 "mirror" operation of "Array"; 3 "cut" operation for an entity. The above operations should be avoided in actual use. For the first and second cases, try to replace the "rectangular array" and "circumferential array" in the same entity or "array" as much as possible; for the third case, try to use the "cut-off" operation.
