The ZooSCAN zooplankton image scanning analysis system is mainly used for counting, measuring and classifying zooplankton samples in liquids.

The ZooSCAN (CNRS patent) system uses scanner technology with traditional lighting and a water-tight scanning chamber for the storage of liquid zooplankton samples. ZooSCAN can record high-resolution digital images that can then be studied in a computer program. Although this digital zooplankton image has a lower resolution than images obtained with a binocular microscope, this technique has been proven to be suitable for large sample types. The species of zooplankton can be automatically identified by comparison with existing zooplankton images in the database. The establishment of the database is done by the researcher, mainly the pre-import identification of each individual. The latest ZooSCAN learning ability shows a high level of cognition, but in order to achieve a large number of taxonomy, we recommend manual pre-sample sorting.
